A rare Suffragette Holloway Prison silver brooch, modelled as a portcullis with applied conflict arrow enamelled in the Suffragette colours of purple, white and green, the reverse with link chain, stamped silver and Toye & Co London. This brooch after the design by Sylvia Pankhurst, was awarded to members of the Women's Social and Political Union's who had been imprisoned for women's suffrage. "Described as the 'Victoria Cross of the Union', the design is of the Portcullis symbol of the House of Commons, the gate and hanging chains are in silver and the superimposed broad arrow in purple, white and green enamel". Weight: 0.168ozt; 2.5 x 2.1cm approx.Condition:Fair to good, with minor wear, the link chain is broken, some wear to the enamel colours at the top of the arrow.
