Otto Eckmann (Germany, 1865-1902) Street Scene oil on board painting. Signed lower right. Christie's label verso. Sight Size: 10.5 x 7.5 in. Overall Size: 15.5 x 12.25 in. Eckmann studied at the Munich Academy under A. von Wagner. Since the mid 1890s however he turned his back on academic painting and distinguished himself as the leading exponent of a floral Art Nouveau. He worked in Munich for the magazines 'Jugend' and 'Pan' but kept in touch with Hamburg through J. Brinckmann - director of the arts and crafts museum - and through the Scherrebek weaving school. In 1897 he moved to Berlin and worked as teacher for ornamental graphics at the arts and crafts museum. In 1989 he was co-founder of the Munich secession.
