A rare Derby figure from a monkey orchestra c.1815, of large size, seated on his haunches and wearing a wide neck ruff over a striped patterned coat, playing the violin, raised on a flat shaped base, some small damages and restoration, 12.5cm. Cf. Peter Bradshaw, Derby Porcelain Figures, p 431, fig G59 for examples in this and the smaller size. While several factories made monkey bands following the popularity of that produced at Meissen, Derby was unusual in producing its own design.
