A Derby 'capuchine pigeon' tureen and cover c.1760, naturalistically modelled with plumage picked out in purple enamel, seated on a nest of straw, corn ears and feathers inside a basket, a few small chips, 21.2cm. (2) Cf. Dennis G Rice, Derby Porcelain: The Golden Years 1760-1770, p.152, pl.123 for a similar pair. Capuchine pigeons are an old fancy breed, easily recognised by their feathered hood.
