A rare pair of Champion's Bristol figures of a shepherd and his companion c.1775, perhaps emblematic of Liberty and Matrimony, the former modelled as a young girl gathering flowers in her apron with a lamb by her side, Matrimony as her companion, holding a small bird in his left hand, each figure leaning on a tree stump behind, raised on low square bases painted with foliate scrolls, some good restoration to Liberty, 17.3cm. (2) Cf. Catalogue of the Schreiber Collection, Volume I, no.733, now in the V&A, accession no. 414:735-1885.
