Imperial edict by Emperor Guangxu (1871-1908)
On a yellow silk scroll with moiré dragons, adorned with numerous seals and bearing the following text in Mandarin and Manchu: "By the grace of the Heavens, the Emperor issued the following edict relating to the promotion of official military examinations: to Liu Chun-Lin is conferred the title of Mandarin of the fifth rank. He is authorised to wear the blossom button and the peacock feather befitting a general administrator. In reference to the imperial instructions of Guangxu, the sixth day of the eighth month of the third year."
