This is a finely cast bronze image of a classic Walking Buddha of Sukhothai. With his slender torso turned slightly to his right, his right heel is has been raised in preparation for his next step. His robe clings to his body, but flows loosely off his left arm which is raised to dispel fear, while his right arm gracefully hangs by his side, arguably producing the most serene image of the Buddha in the world. His subtle smile and downcast eyes evoke peace and harmony. HIs elongated ears, from wearing heavy earrings as a young Prince, remind us how he disavowed worldly possessions. His tightly curled hair, representing nobility, supports the the flaming Ushnisha, symbolizing illumination of the mind. There is an old repair to a casting flaw on the bottom of the back of his robe. 19th century or earlier.14.25 inches excluding base
