The Gulbenkian Museum is an important collection of Chinese art within the UK. Museum records confirm that the painting was on display until 1974. The label contains the stock number PSR12, and whilst the museum refuses to confirm the identity of de-accessioned stock, there is a record of pieces within the collection donated by Mrs PS Rawson, whose initials match those of PSR. Philip S. Rawson (1924 – 1995), the founding curator of the museum, thus lending further evidence to the provenance of the painting.
