A MELBOURNE PRIVATE COLLECTION OF CHINESE PAINTINGS一墨爾本書畫私人收藏Lots 158 to 174Historically, collecting of Chinese calligraphy and paintings has a very strong localised tendency. For example, a lot of southern artists are found in the collections formed in Guangdong and Fujian. These works, travelled with a large wave of emigrants from this area to Southeast Asia, and some consequently found their home in Australia. This collection of Chinese paintings, featuring artists from not only southern China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, but also Southeast Asia, is a good example of this phenomena. It also explains the curious case of how large quantity of works by southern artists are discovered in Australia in the recent years.中國書畫收藏地域性極強，例如湖廣閩、乃至近世港澳台畫家頻繁出現在閩粵收藏中。此類作品又隨著清末民國一波中國東南沿岸的移民潮，經由東南亞，輾轉而落足澳洲。此輯書畫收藏，不乏粵中名家、港台乃至南洋現當代大師，見證這段近代書畫遷徙史。藏家落戶墨爾本後，遂於當地南洋華僑同好聯誼，大多書畫乃私下轉讓交換而得，承繼華夏文人以書畫會友之風雅。
