A pair of Chinese porcelain Fo-dogs in blue glaze, the male with a ball under his paw and the female with a puppy under her paw. 19th century. H. 17 cm. L. 19 cm. In fitted box. Provenance: Acquired and brought home by Captain Erich Detlefsen, 1835–1871, who sailed as a captain on one of Denmark's largest freighter ships: the “Salamander”, which mainly sailed off the coast of China. The ship was owned by the shipping company Christian Karberg, Sönderborg.
