A Chinese gilt bronze figure of Guanyin with remains of gilt and red paint, seated with a sceptre, the face with a serene expression adorned with a high crown centered by Amitabha Buddha and the chest with elaborate jewels, supported on a separately cast lotus throne flanked by two acolytes between a Buddhist kundika and a kalavinka bird. Ming, 15th-16th century. Weight in all 1.0981 g. Weight: throne 4.794 g. Figure 6.184 g. H. incl throne 44 cm. The Guanyin H. 34 cm. Provenance: Acquired and brought home by Captain Erich Detlefsen, 1835–1871, who sailed as a captain on one of Denmark's largest freighter ships: the “Salamander”, which mainly sailed off the coast of China. The ship was owned by the shipping company Christian Karberg, Sönderborg.
