A portrait of Maharaja Sarabhoji of Tanjore standing with an official in a presentation room with gilt wood furniture and a mantle clock, with a blue velvet curtain drawned aside, the Maharaja depicted as a heavily bejewelled figure with elaborate turban and side-whiskers. Gouache with gold on paper. Visible size 60×44 cm. Maharaja Sarabhoji of Tanjore (also known as Serfoji II), 1777–1832, reigned from 1787 until his death in 1832. He was the last ruler of the Bhonsle dynasty. As a child he was entrusted to the care of the Danish reverent and missionary Christian Freidrich Schwartz. Proveniens: Sophus Andreas Bergsøe, 1838–96, a reverent from Aalborg c. 1880. Hence family.
