A fine display model of the British racing yacht 'Genesta', built 1884 D&W Henderson, River Clyde, challenger for the America's Cup 1885, fully detailed with mast, booms and rigging, anchors, deck-lights, sail winch, gratings, tiller, dinghy etc, the hull sheathed in copper to the waterline, mounted on two brass columns, 73.5 cm x 67.3 cm, within a frameless perspex case on oak base, overall 86 cm h x 80 cm w x 22 cm

The Ginesta was declared winner of the 1885 race after a collision with the American defender 'Puritan', the Puritan judged to be at fault. However, her owner, Sir Richard Sutton, not content with this outcome, insisted on a re-run, resulting in a win for the Puritan thus America's retained the cup. This remains one of the closest America's Cup races in history.
