|紫檀木制成，质地坚硬，色泽紫黑，纹理细密。文具盒外观呈双联鱼形，子母口，壁较薄，盒盖双鱼雕琢细腻，鱼睛、鱼鳃、鱼鳍、鱼尾等部位细线琢刻，生动形象。紫檀主要产于东南亚地区，明清宫廷大量进口，用以制作各类家具。明代晚期，文人喜好紫檀木的沉穆雍容之美，倍加推崇，多被多制成文房用具，如镇纸、笔筒、炉、瓶、文具盒等；至清代，紫檀木大多用以制作桌椅、几架、箱柜、盒匣等家具。此文具盒即是清代紫檀文房用具之一，精致可爱。
