Perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatches by Patek Philippe are the epitome of retro styling and among the most important wristwatches sought after by connoisseurs today, with the first model Ref. 1518 first appearing in the manufacturer's catalog in 1941. The present model Ref. 5270 was released in 2011 and represents the first ever Patek Philippe perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch to feature a 100% in-house designed and manufactured caliber. The 29-535 PS Q replaced the Lemania caliber that was used in the firm's stable of perpetual calendar chronographs since 1986 in models such as the Ref. 3970 (see Lot 963 in pink gold), 3990 (see Lot 983 in platinum), 5970 (see Lot 964 in yellow gold) and the 5971.The larger 41mm case diameter of this impressive wristwatch, alongside a few new dial design cues, such as the day-night and leap year round apertures, breathe a contemporary spirit into this otherwise classic Patek Philippe complication, prized by collectors for its steadily appreciating value over the decades.
