Whimsical Reverse Painted Intaglio Quartz Box--"Finding Nemo" by Manfred Wild


Idar-Oberstein, Germany A masterwork with a whimsical twist: depicting the clown-fish "Nemo" and son together with a third fish friend. The oval box carved of rock crystal quartz possessing natural black phantoming and black inclusions to suggest a sea anemone through which the three fish swim. The lid is reverse intaglio carved and painted in orange, white and black to depict the three clown fish. The base of the box is formed of nearly optically clear quartz to one side and having chlorite inclusions to the other side. Both the hinged lid and the body of the box are copiously rimmed in 18K yellow gold. Signed EB for Emil Becker. Length 4 1/2 in
