|笔筒以楠木树根刳挖制成，随形，筒身通体透漏，肌理纵横，天然质朴，下承随形嵌装束腰起阳线底，古香古色。楠木是我国珍贵树种，木质坚硬，硬度适中，弹性好易于加工，不变形且耐腐，有芳香气味，传说水不能浸，蚁不能穴，为明清时期宫廷建筑必用木材，因出产量较少，是明清时期皇家建筑、家具所用的珍贵木材。此件笔筒造型奇异，富有天然山野意趣，通体木色沉稳谙熟，且包浆郁实，可藏可赏。
