Tang dynastyDressed in a fur-lined tunic with the lapels turned backward on his corpulent figure and a cloth cap on his head with intent eyes and exaggerated features as he stands with feet spread on a low plinth, and his arms stretched apart to hold the lead on a beast of burden, the surfaces showing remains of red, brown and black pigments on a white slip ground. 16 1/4in (41.3cm) high
