A PARTIALLY GILT CERAMIC VOTIVE PLAQUEBurma, 18th century13,4 cm highMoulded in relief inside a frame shaped as a pointed niche, the coronet Buddha seated in dhyanasana on a lotus flower basement, the right hand in bhumisparshamudra.Provenance: the collection of a Swiss-Neapolitan noble family, acquired in early ‘30s of the 20th century. This kind of votive plaque was traditionally acquired by pilgrims when visiting a temple. The practice was known in all the South-East Asian countries, but especially in Thailand and Burma.
