A MEISSEN CUTLERY HANDLE MOUNTED WITH A STERLING SILVER CAKE SLICE, the handle circa 1728, decorated in underglaze-blue and painted with polychrome sprays of flowers in Kakiemon style, the pierced mid-18th Century silver slice hallmarked for Dresden, probably 1745, with unidentified maker’s mark, the handle 10cm long
PROVENANCE: Private German collection.
FOOTNOTES: This handle was painted at the Meissen factory in underglaze-blue before being decorated by a Hausmaler with simple polychrome flowers. A set of very similar cutlery handles in the Wark Collection, see Ulrich Pietsch, 'Early Meissen Porcelain' (2011), p. 330, cat. 357.
