Wonderful 4.25 x 6.5 cabinet photo of Anthony by Taber of San Francisco, signed on the reverse in ink, "Susan B. Anthony, Rochester, N.Y., Feb. 15, 1820–July 5, 1895." In fine condition. A handsome image of the suffragette during California's 1895 woman suffrage campaign, the state's first vote on the issue. Anthony traveled westward with Anna Howard Shaw, drawing large crowds as they passed through Reno and Salt Lake City. She hired the journalist Ida Harper to help publicize the woman suffrage question, and campaigned vigorously for the essential right to vote. Despite wide support, the opposition defeated the referendum in 1896.
