An Aboriginal parrying shield, Australia, with a fine carved textured patina and with an integral handle, 19th century, 73.5cm long., Provenance, Allan MacPherson, Blairgowrie, Scotland, and thence by descent., Allan MacPherson was the son of William MacPherson, the clerk to the House of Representatives, Melbourne, Australia. He wrote a pamphlet of his experiences around Mount Abundance in the mid 19th century, returning to Scotland in 1860.
