Autograph Manuscript Signed ("S. Esenin"), a fair copy of the poem "Glupoe serdtse, ne beisya" [Silly Heart, Don't Beat], 1 p, 4to (282 x 220 mm), [Baku], 1925, toned with folds, with minor tear, some soiling.This fair copy of a poem by Russia's beloved "Hooligan Poet," Sergei Esenin (also, Yesenin), apparently written for a friend, was composed in August 1925 while living in Baku in the newly formed Soviet Republic of Azerbaidjan. He had recently split from his fellow Imagists literally and figuratively and turned to Eastern themes for his poetry. Besides being included in one of his last books, the romantic cycle of fifteen poems Persidskie motivy, "Glupoe serdtse, ne beisya" appeared in Bakinskiy rabochiy [Baku Worker] in August 1925; and in Krasnaya nov [New Ground], August 1925, p 93. Later that year on December 28, 1925, Esenin was found hanging in a room at the Hotel Angleterre in Leningrad, after writing his final poem the previous day, "Goodbye, my friend, goodbye," in his own blood.
