A group of four Chinese carved hardstone snuff bottles Comprising: a quartz example with black inclusions, carved in the form of a double gourd; a banded agate snuff bottle, of flattened barrel form, carved with seal characters, applied shoulder; a carved malachite snuff bottle, possibly Japanese, of flattened spade form, carved with a dragon, a phoenix and flower verso; and a carved crystal, possibly tourmaline, snuff bottle of greyish tone, slightly green at the shoulder and one side, carved with goldfish and waves. Approx. H of tallest: 2 1/2 in., 6.2cm PROVENANCE: Malachite, agate and tourmaline snuffs purchased from Fu-Ming-Fair Gallery in Mainland, Pennsylvania, February 5, 1978 by parents of present owner. Thence by descent.
