An Ottoman silk and metallic thread-embroidered black-ground curtain circa 1813 Bearing the tughra of Sultan Mahmud II (r. 1808-1839), dated AH1228. With two arches supported by solomonic columns, enclosing various Arabic inscriptions on the black ground and applied moss-green, golden brown and red panels, below four further applied inscribed cartouches, all within elaborate scrollwork, densely worked in silver and golden metallic threads, within a red-ground border. Approximately H: 104 in., 264cm; W: 66 in., 167.5cm PROVENANCE: Private collection, New York state Acquired from the above by the present owner.
