A Japanese carved wood figure of seated Jizo Bosatsu Muromachi period, 15th century The peaceful figure in draped robes, seated in lalitasana, bearing a gem in the left hand, the other raised to hold a staff (now lost), inscribed in ink to the reverse and underside, seated apon a rockwork-carved wood base. NOTE: according to information provided by the present owner, the inscription verso bears a date corresponding to 1452. Approx. H: 17 in., 43.1cm PROVENANCE: Acquired by the mother-in-law of the present owner in Japan in the early 1970s.
