TWO IVORY AND WOOD NETSUKE OF DOGSIvory and wood netsukeJapan, 19th centuryThe first netsuke, more functional as an okimono, depicting a dog on a high base, holding a ball between his paws, his head movable. The base is decoratively incised on all four sides with waves and feathers, and with what, rather unusually, appears to be church towers. On one of the towers a large bird sits, presumably a crane. Good himotoshi.The second netsuke of a wood dog on a base, his head removable. His collar and the singular himotoshi inlaid in partially stained ivory.Dimensions: HEIGHT approximately 3.9 – 6.2 CM Condition: Both in very good conditionProvenance: Austrian private collection, acquired at Galerie Zacke in the 1990s, with old label
