A KATANA, C. LATE 17TH TO 18TH CENTURYJapan, c. late 17th to 18th centuryShinogi-Zukuri with iori mune. Suguha haon with nie and nioi, also koidare towards the blade point. The nakago (tang) is ubu with two mekugi ana, the yasurime is kiri and the tang tip is kuri jiri.The iron ishimeji tsuba has mokko-gata as well as two hitsu and shows a decorative pattern on both sides. Fuchi and kashira are made from iron as well and both show engraved floral decorations with soe silver and gold inlays. Both menuki are made from bronze and show floral compositions, yet with a gilded “eye” that could belong to a monster. The tsuka ito is made from leather.
