One of the earliest books devoted to the subject, with two albumen photographs of excised human hearts, one from a patient with mitral stenosis and the other from a patient with mitral regurgitation. A contemporary review commends the work as "a painstaking effort to collect and compare data of all kinds bearing upon the subject" (Edinburgh Medical Journal. 1888, p. 465).
