Signed by Bakken. 4. Black and white photograph of Bakken. 5 x 7 inch. Inscribed by Bakken, "To Bruce Fye, With best wishes, Earl Bakken. Jan. 1993."GROUNDBREAKING ARTICLE ON ARTIFICIAL PACEMAKERS, INSCRIBED by Bakken and Gott. Earl Bakken was an electrical engineer working with the University of Minnesota when he produced the first light-weight, battery-powered pacemaker at the request of C. Walton Lillehei. Gott was working as a surgical resident in Lillehei's laboratory at the time. The inscriptions in item one were written at the 50th anniversary celebration of the invention of the pacemaker in Minneapolis on December 13, 2007. Gott's reads, "Bruce - Congratulations on your outstanding pursuit of medical history - Nobody does it better," and Bakken's reads "I built the featherweight transistorized pacemaker mentioned on page 362.
