It includes Riolan's discussion on blood circulation, in which he accepts certain aspects of Harvey's discovery, but rejects other vital concepts. Riolan's rejection of portions of Harvey's ideas spurred Harvey to conduct further experiments, proving his theory. The plates were copied from Vesling's Syntagma Anatomicum, having previously appeared in Culpepper's 1653 translation of Vesling's work.
