A FRENCH DAGOTY ET HONORÉ (PARIS) EMPIRE PERIOD PORCELAIN DESSERT SERVICE, circa 1815-20, the rims with bands of trailing acorns and oak leaves in tooled gilding, the majority on a matt black ground, each piece monogrammed 'DV' or 'VD' in gilt cursive script, including a Pots de Crème set comprising five cups and covers on an unusual Egyptian revival stand raised on four gilt sphinx-like caryatid supports with paw feet, the stand 27.5cm diameter, a reticulated basket centrepiece, 19cm high, a sauce boat and cover with integrated stand, 24cm wide, a pair of comports, 23cm diameter, a pair of circular serving bowls, 24.5cm diameter, four quatrelobe dishes with gilt scroll handles, 22.5cm wide, four bowls or coupes, 22.5cm diameter, and twenty dessert plates, 22cm diameter, 'Manufacture de S.M. l'Imperatrice P.L. DAGOTY A PARIS' stencilled in brown to 13 plates, 'E.D.Honoré Blvd Poissonnière no 6 à Paris Manufacture à Champroux Allier No. Prix' within a scroll printed in puce to three plates and two comports, the rest unmarked (some damage) (47)Literature: Dagoty's porcelain was characterised by the thick application of burnished gold leaf, and often employed Neoclassical and Egyptian motifs. From 1816 Dagoty worked in partnership with François Maurice Honoré, until the factory's closure in 1820. A pencil and gouache design for a coffee cup decorated with a similar gold oak leaf and acorn motif, circa 1810, is in the Victoria & Albert Museum, accession no. 3235:6.
