古人穿宽袖大袍，手炉可置于袖中或怀中，所以有“袖炉”、“捧炉”的雅称。此暖手炉为红铜烧制，仿竹编篓式方盖，方直腹，设提梁，铜质优良，栗色皮壳，葆光内炼。过去闺中仕女所用手炉体量相对较小，此间形制饱满，或为过去的读书人所用，有了此种手炉，“纵使诗家寒到骨，阳春腕底已生姿”（ 张劭《手炉》），暖手疏血，书写绘画两不误。参阅：1.中国嘉德2017秋季拍卖会《 逸庐——古器雅集》LOT5038号；
