此件玉器整体圆雕作刘海戏金蟾造型；以黑白玉俏色巧雕制作，玉质细腻温润，白玉雕琢人物而黑玉雕琢金蟾。刘海造型富有喜感，笑容满面，弓背趴于金蟾背上，以钱串逗弄金蟾。刘海戏金蟾是古老的中国民间传说故事，来源于道家的典故。常德城内井里有金蟾，住在井旁的青年刘海，家贫如洗，为人厚道，事母至孝；后来以宝珠为饵，引出金蟾，踩金蟾背而登天成仙。而后来逐渐演变为仙人逍遥、招财进宝的寓意。整体造型生动有趣，线条纹饰流畅自然，适宜收藏把玩，佩戴装饰。
