A painter of history, of genre scenes and landscapes, Jan Miel most likely received his first training in Antwerp and perhaps even in the studio of Gérard Seghers. This work was done during his time in Rome, where he settled in 1630. He enjoyed a high reputation for his rustic genre scenes ("Bambocciata"). 46 x 36.5 cm In a moulded giltwood frame. Cracked surface with numerous retouches.
