AN EGYPTIAN BRONZE IBIS Late Period, Circa 664 - 30 B.C. The recumbent ibis with typical curved neck, small round head and downward curving beak, with linear incisions running down the beak to indicate the mouth, the ovoid body with incised chevrons at the tail to depict feathers, the oversized feet attached at the legs from another ibis figure, 7.2cm long, (11.8cm high inc. base) Provenance: Collection of Gustave Mustaki, Alexandria, Egypt; exported from Egypt to the UK under licence c.1950; Collection of Elsa MacLellan, Portsmouth, UK; thence by descent from the above; Private collection, London, UK; by descent from the above.
