金剛九頭三十四臂十六足，九頭分三層排列。最上層為文殊菩薩相，最下層居中正面為碩大牛首，額首出雙角，頭戴寶冠，呈憤怒相。三十四臂左右對稱，手持各式法器，惟主四臂持鉞刀及噶巴拉血碗，環抱若浪瑪明妃。十六足右屈左展，腳踏數隻瑞獸、天王等，下承仰蓮座。整尊像形體碩大，製作工藝複雜，極富藝術感染力。大威德金剛本義為降閻魔尊，是藏傳佛教中無上密的最高本尊之一。因其威德極大，具有降伏閻魔法王與護法之大威神力，故稱其尊號為大威德金剛。
