Splendid chalcographic translation of the animated scene described by Ovid in the II book of Le Metamorfosi which allows the Dutch engraver to depict the human body in different plastic poses, a technique in which he excelled. H. Goltzius, belonging to a lineage of artists, was a pupil of Volckertsz, Coornhert and Philippe Galle and became one of the most important exponents of the Dutch school, performing more than 300 tables; he is a superb engraver and his works are rightly sought after (Benezit).
