A Chinese Canton export folding fan, mid to late 19th century, each brass guard cast in relief with typical scenes of figures in village life, the nine sticks alternating with stained ivory, natural ivory, tortoiseshell and mother-of-pearl, all with similarly carved and pierced decoration, the paper panel painted in gouache to both sides with figural scenes, the figures with appliqué facial detail, length 27.5cm (some sticks missing, repairs and damage to paper panel), within a black lacquer rectangular case (faults).
