Perhaps it was a good thing since his wild bohemian lifestyle and wine consumption at nightly Parisian parties rewarded him with the title “The Prince of Montparnasse”. Born in Bulgaria , he is best known as a painter of the School of Paris who strongly identified with the Modernist movement and other artistic circles of Montparnasse. Alcoholism, a lifetime of depression, and self doubt in his work, lead to his suicide the night before a very prestigious one-man show.
