A delftware syrup or wet drug jar mid 18th century, the globular body painted with a narrow cartouche titled 'S:ROSAR:SOL', surmounted by two winged putti holding single flower stems either side of a scallop shell, raised on a tall spreading foot, marked 'Px' to the underside, 19cm. Provenance: acquired from Sotheby's, 20th June 1967, lot 71. Syrupus rosarum solutivus was made by infusing rose petals with water and adding sugar. It was taken to relieve constipation.
