The clay that forms the body is incense gray and very fine, typical of Song dynasty porcelain clays. The opaque glaze on the inner wall and the outer body is celeste blue, with trace of greenish tint, typical for Song dynasty Ru ware kiln glazes. The celeste blue and opaque glaze on the all body is exceedingly beautiful and very rare. In Chinese porcelain history, this color exists primarily among a very small number of Five Dynasty Cai porcelains and Song Ru ware.
