A RARE ICON SHOWING THE MOTHER OF GOD OF KAZAN SURROUNDED BY THE NARRATIVE OF ITS MIRACULOUS DISCOVERY Russland, Anfang 19. Jh. Russian, 19th century Verbund von vier Brettern mit zwei Rueckseiten-Sponki. Kowtscheg, Eitempera auf Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The story beginning at the upper left corner when the Mother of God appeared in a prophetic dream to a 10-year-old girl named Matrona asking for her to find her precious image; subsequently, Matrona conveying the message to her mother, and then having the same vision for a second time; on the upper right corner the girl informing the archbishop; further down, Matrona and her Mother digging and finding the icon; followed by the translation of the icon to the Church of St. Nicholas and then to the Cathedral of the Annunciation in Kazan, where it performed numerous miracles, the one visualised in the lower right compartment being the healing of a blind man. Wearings, losses. Four selected saints on the borders: the Guardian Angel and Sts. Samon, Guri and Aviv. 35.7 x 30.7 cm.
