North India, 18th/ 19th Centurythe watered steel head with chiseled interlaced palmettes to upper and lower edge, overlaid in gold kotgari with further gold bands of undulating vines to each face, the wood haft with steel mounts to upper and lower section chiseled and decorated in gold koftgari with an interlace of palmettes, the central section clad in red velvet
