An elegant pair of Chinese cloisonne enamel incense burners; each one with hinged gilt handles, and of ribbed oviform design with pierced domed cover decorated with formal lotus and a single bianqing (musical chime). The exterior of both burners decorated with a variety of natural history subjects, including: domestic fowl, cranes, birds and hoofed quadrupeds. The interiors with removable gilt metal liners and the bases of each also gilded. Diameters about 18cm, Qing Dynasty (2). Provenance: The Property of an English Gentleman.
