A CHOKWE WOOD MASK, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGOWith a large bulbous forehead, with an incised cruciform scarification mark typical of this type of mask, the large convex almond-shaped eyes, with hollow slits, surmount the broad nose and full lips, with scarification marks on the cheeks and jawline and a lobed, cross-hatched pattern, surrounding the hair line, with raffia and cloth surviving, 31.4cm high.
