CHRONICLES... containing the cruel civil wars between the houses of Orleans & Burgundy, the occupation of Paris & Normandy by the English, the expulsion of Iceux, & other memorable things that happened in his time in this Kingdom & Eastern countries... Paris, Guillaume Chaudière, 1572. 3 volumes of [12]-324-[6] ; |8]-201-1bl.-[4] ; [9]-1bl.-[12] leaves, bound in 1 volume in folio, brown calf, richly decorated spine (17th century binding). THE MOST BEAUTIFUL EDITION OF THIS FAMOUS TEXT. The first two books alone are by Monstrelet, the third, which begins in 1444 and ends in 1467, is largely by Jean Chartier, except for a few passages. Next is the Chronicle of Louis XI, known as the Scandalous Chronicle, attributed to Jean de Roye and a continuation until 1512, due to Pierre Desrey. Well preserved copy, wide margin, beautifully printed by Jean le Blanc, with his mark on the title. A detached dish. Manuscript bookplate Grosley, Trojan scholar, on the first title.
