Chinese Yuan Dynasty Period, blue & white dragon motif porcelain meiping jar. The porcelain shaped into a traditional Meiping form, large, thick and tall potted, wide body on shoulder, slender neck easing to form narrow opening, with emerging slight flaring mouth rim, raised on splayed round foot base, with slight concave. All reserved in hand painting ornamentations, rendered in clean white under glazed ground color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color. The main belly adorned with snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves in a cobalt blue color dragon squama rounded the bowl to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames and vapors. The foot rim and the upper shoulder decorated with Geometric pattern, flowers pendants. The upper main belly festooned with abundant flowers blooms interspersed scrolling interlocking tendril and foliage. Each section banded and enclosed with double fine rings. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the under glaze grayish-blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme groundand dark grayish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim. Elegantly and smooth presented upon a carved zitan hardwood stand with archaic ruyi pattern.
