A PINK LUSTREWARE COMMEMORATIVE JUG WITH BYRON LEAVING FOR HIS FIRST TRIP TO GREECE Leeds and Sunderland, England, early 19th century Commemorating Byron's first visit to Greece, September 1809 on the Spider Brig, of typical apple-like shape, with rounded body with loop handle, wide mouth, elongated and curved spout, short circular foot, painted in white, glazed, the neck, the mouth and the foot with bands and leafy motifs in pink metallic glaze, the handle and the body with patterns of metallic pink leaves and palmettes, the body with a black transfer printed image of Byron as a young sailor sitting on the deck of a ship holding a letter and a portrait, together with a transfer printed reproduction of George Sander's painting 'George Gordon, 6th Lord Byron' portraying young Lord Byron arriving in Greece and another showing a view of Sunderland Bridge accompanied by the text 'SUNDERLAND BRIDGE.
