Bryan Kneale (British, B. 1930) "Dinosaur - Iguanodon" Colored Pencil on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This artwork was originally published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the Great Britain Owen's Dinosauria 1841 22p Iguanodon stamp issued August 20, 1991. Unearthed Iguanodon fossils drew a provocative portrait of a large biped, duck-billed dinosaur measuring more than twelve feet in height and thirty feed in length. Possessing muscular hind limbs and short forelegs complete with hands, the Iguanodon earned it moniker from its peculiarly serrated teeth -- similar in form and function to iguana teeth. The creature's stout build and sharp teeth belied its placid nature and vegetarian diet. Scientists have discovered mass repositories of Iguanodon fossils, suggesting that they traveled in herds or lived in family groups. Some paleontologists have also hypothesized that this species was partially aquatic and sought refuge in lakes or streams when frightened or threatened. Image Size: 19.75 x 21.75 in. Overall Size: 30.25 x 23.75 in. Unframed. (B13212)
